Mr. A.S.M Nayeem is an Associate Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales since November 1980, a Fellow Member of The Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, UK since September 1980 and a Fellow Member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh since 1982. He did his M.Sc. in Industrial Administration (Now renamed as M.B.A.), from University of Aston in Birmingham, U.K. He has significant experience of working in the corporate sector as well as in the accounting practice. He held top managerial positions in some leading business houses in Bangladesh i.e. Additional Managing Director of Karnaphuli Group, Managing Director of K&T Logistics Ltd, sponsor Managing Director of Finvest Services Ltd.. He was engaged in numerous consultancy assignments for international and bilateral agencies and local private sector enterprises. He worked as consultant in Bangladesh and abroad. He has provided consultancy services to IFAD, UNDP, UNICEF, SIDA, CIDA, NORAD, GTZ, John Hopkins University (USA), USAID just to name a few. As professional accountant he was involved in planning, supervising and conducting financial audit of companies of various sizes and dealing in various kinds of activities, preparation of accounts (financial and management), tax works, investigation works, designing and implementing accounting systems in various types of organisations, examining and recommending improvement in internal control systems. He has notable expertise in financial management and procurement systems and conversant with ADB’s Procurement Guidelines, Procurement Guidelines of World Bank, Public Procurement Rules and Acts. He has been a member of the Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) since January 1998, and worked as Chairman/member of various committees of the ICAB. He was the President of ICAB in the year 2006 and was a Vice President of ICAB in the years 2000, 2001 and 2005. He is the Chairman of the Professional Ethics and Independence Committee of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). He is a Board Director of the Chittagong Stock Exchange since December 1999 and was a Vice President of the Exchange in 2003-2004. He was a nominated Board Director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange Ltd. in the year 2006. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Sonali Bank Ltd., Grameen Fund, a sister concern of Grameen Bank, Republic Insurance Company Ltd and a number of business companies. He presented a number of technical papers in workshops / seminars organized by the ICAB independently, jointly by the ICAB and UNDP, jointly by Shell (Bangladesh) Ltd., Foreign Investors Chamber and ACNABIN & Co., and jointly by World Bank and Auditor General’s Office of the Govt. of Bangladesh. He attended a number of SAFA Conferences at home and abroad. He represented ICAB in the South Asian Regional Standard Setters’ Meeting held in end February 2005 in Colombo, Sri Lanka and presented a paper on the Status of Accounting Standards of the SAFA countries visà-vis IASs/IFRSs and challenges faced and steps taken by the SAFA countries for speedy adoption of IASs/IFRSs.
